Release Notes

Version 1.3 Service pack 1

This service pack is released in parellel with the upgrade of SQL CE drivers to version 1.3. The numbers in the items below refer to issue numbers, which contain more details

New features

92 Added an option to refresh the grid periodically
Select Action, Refresh Grid then select an appropriate delay to have DbViewSharp periodically re-execute the current grid Sql and display the result. Rows with differences from the previous display are shown in red and "fade" to different colours in subsequent executions. Useful for monitoring service broker queues, log tables and any other active tables.

61 Searching for field and table names in all objects.
Following research which raised doubts about Sql server tracking of dependencies this new option in the source search dialog (All source) searches for the text assuming that it is a full column or object name. It is now executed when right-clicking on a table and selecting search in source.

102 Add new connection string right-click menu items
Added two new menu items to the menu that pops up when you right-click on a database connection line. 1. Copies to the clipboard the connection string undecorated with the C# code to assign it to a string variable. 2. Copies to the clipboard the connection information in a suitable manner for sending in an E-mail or IM message for when a colleague asks you "what are the connection details for the QC backup Customer sales staging database?" or similar.

91 Change to tab appearance and behaviour.
Changed the background of inactive tabs to black in order to emphasize the active tab.
When a new tab is created it is move to the far left rather than added on the right.

71 Table data Sql uses the nolock keyword
When searching data in SQL server the database engine locks on the table. On a high-performance system with volatile data running search queries can interfere with table updates. To avoid this the search query can add a directive that suppresses locking at the cost of a risk of slightly inaccurate results on occasion. This upgrade adds the directive to any query on table data that includes a sort column as part of the Refresh Data feature

Bug fixes

99 Bug: cannot make getdate() a date default.
Removed code that was too "clever" and always wrapped a date or character field in quotes. This strategy broke defaults which were no literals.

  1. Exception thrown when single quote entered in the search text box.
  2. Occasional Key not found in dictionary error displayed on start-up.
